Gardener designer Richard Miers, Wisbech, Cambs 29/04/11

As with tasteful interior design, Richard knows how to landscape design something that is modern and contemporary for the exterior of a home and yet he has a depth of knowledge and sensitivity to appreciate horticultural heritage. His projects include many London gardens, a grade 1 listed house in Norfolk, a 15-acre garden for a mansion in Surrey, a villa in Sardinia and a dacha in Moscow. Expect a gorgeous tapestry of plants, shrubs, trees, water, paths, walls and terraces meandering with meaning and purpose through gardens with every detail created with his client’s enjoyment in mind. As you can imagine, Richard is great company so when our equally socially vivacious Leila Benton Jones encountered him at an event a few years ago, an introduction to Maclynn was made. Since the advent of Maclynn8 events, Richard has been a fixture at half a dozen soirees organised by Barbara Brudenell-Bruce. The Maclynn8 events are carefully designed and curated by Barbara to ensure everyone attending has a wonderful time and meets an eclectic group of attractive and interesting single people.

We value Richard’s opinion especially as he has to be so carefully tuned into the thoughts and feelings of his clients. With that in mind we recently had a chance to catch up with Richard and asked him about his experiences with Maclynn8 events and Maclynn Consultancy.

Have you been to many Maclynn8 events and if so do you have a particular one that you loved and why? “I’ve been to about 6 events. I particularly enjoyed a cookery event La Cucina Caldesi and the ‘Meet the Introducers’ at Library in St Martins Lane”.

We asked Richard if he had been sharing his Maclynn8 social experiences with anyone and he said, “I have indeed, a group of 9 of us went to the last party together then I bumped into at least 4 other friends there. So together with the familiar faces I’d met through Maclynn8, I must have known twenty people there, which made it very easy to introduce my friends to the others who’d come on their own”.

What do you think of the concept of Maclynn8? “Focusing on the networking aspect of just meeting other likeminded people who happen to be single is great, as extending one’s social network and meeting successful interesting people enriches your life”.

How does going to a Maclynn8 event compare to your other dating experiences? “The cross section of people is much more varied and interesting and it’s a no pressure environment to meet people”.

Did you feel nervous or reticent to investigate the world of professional matchmaking? “Slightly, but I approach it in a way of just making friends and seeing where that leads rather than trying to meet the ‘one’ on the night. Maclynn has had a great impact on my social life and network and I would highly recommend attending the Maclynn8 events, which are always a lot of fun!

When you met Maclynn face to face for the first time, who did you meet and what was that like? “I’d already met Leila so that was an easy and informal chat over a cup of coffee. I then met with Joanna and she teased information out of me, again over a cup of coffee”.

Did you feel like the process with Maclynn was something you enjoyed and felt comfortable with? “It’s always quite nerve-wracking making first contact but Maclynn make it as easy as it’s possible to be”.

Any surprise moments of discovery about yourself? “I’m much more social than I thought I was!”

As a client focused businessman, was your expectation met? “Absolutely”.

You help people to design a landscape that really speaks to their soul, does Maclynn understand the romantic and emotional landscape of your life? “Great question! Yes, they’ve been very understanding and are absolute professionals in how they run the agency and bring people together”.
