As a matchmaker, one thing I see again and again is burnout. Not just the classic “I’m tired of apps” burnout, but the deeper exhaustion that comes from juggling demanding careers, overflowing calendars and the pressure to “get it right” in love. I work with ambitious, high-achieving people, and it’s often the case that the focus and intensity that fuel their careers leaves little room for the emotional space needed to nurture meaningful relationships.
I’m not completely untouched by this myself. My work is meaningful, emotional, and beautifully human; I walk alongside people through heartbreak, hope, self-discovery, and everything in between. It requires calm, presence and emotional steadiness, yet I too can slip into that familiar hum of always being “on,” carrying a lot for others while forgetting to carve out space for myself. So, when I was kindly gifted the chance to experience Datu Wellness in the Tuscan hills, I embraced it as the perfect moment to pause, recharge, and reconnect, both personally and professionally.

Stress Changes the Way We Date, Literally
In the fast-paced world of modern dating, many of us move on autopilot, scrolling, matching, and meeting while carrying stress, fatigue, and emotional noise we’ve barely had time to acknowledge. When we’re operating from that place, it’s no surprise that dating can feel harder than it should. The moment we slow down and reconnect with ourselves, everything shifts. A grounded nervous system helps us make clearer decisions, communicate more openly, and recognise people who truly align with our values and energy.
What many people don’t realise is that stress isn’t just tiring; it actually changes the way we show up in dating. Psychological research shows that chronic stress narrows our emotional bandwidth, making it harder to read compatibility accurately. When our inner world is unsettled, we’re more likely to make choices out of urgency, mistake chemistry for connection, overlook red flags, or settle simply because we don’t have the capacity to be discerning. Once we understand this, dating starts to make a lot more sense. It’s not just about who we’re meeting, it’s about the state we’re in when we meet them.

"When we slow our nervous system, we stop dating from urgency and start choosing from clarity. Love changes when we do.”
Finding Stillness at Datu: A Reset I Didn’t Realise I Needed
From the moment I arrived at Datu, nestled into the gentle quiet of the Tuscan hills, I felt an immediate sense of release. The setting is stunning, but what makes it truly special is the care and intention woven into every detail. I felt at home almost immediately. Every detail, from the warm welcome, to the thoughtfully designed rooms, the intention behind each treatment, and the way every practitioner genuinely wants to take care of you. Everything is curated and crafted to make you feel seen, comfortable, and deeply cared for. It communicates one thing clearly: here, your wellbeing truly comes first.
The team combines deep expertise in Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, yoga, and modern wellbeing practices. What makes it exceptional is how effortlessly these traditions merge into a thoughtful mosaic, reconnecting body, mind, and heart.
This isn’t wellness for the trends; it’s lived expertise delivered with humility and passion. You feel it in every moment whether in a treatment or a conversation over a meal, you’re met exactly where you are.
I learned so much during my stay; not only about their specialisms, but also about myself. Conversations felt like gentle guidance, treatments felt tailor-made, and even the simple act of sitting at the table with the team and hearing the stories behind their work was deeply enriching.
The food alone is an experience; Ayurvedic principles paired with fresh Tuscan produce, creating meals that felt both nourishing and intentional. The chef would come out before each meal to explain the intention behind each dish, and you could taste that care in every bite.
I arrived feeling stretched thin, caught in the familiar hum of always being “on.” In a short time, I felt reset from the inside out, calmer, clearer, more focused, and fully present. It wasn’t about escaping life; it was about rediscovering myself beneath the noise.

Why This Matters for Dating
This experience reminded me why I so often encourage clients to tend to their inner world before making big dating decisions. When we’re rested and centred, everything about dating shifts; we naturally become more discerning, not in a picky way, but in a grounded, self-respecting way. Communication feels easier because were not reacting from stress. Red flags become clearer, and green flags feel more trustworthy. We also begin to attract and accept connections that genuinely reflect who we are.
For anyone navigating the modern dating world, especially busy professionals, tending to your inner world isn’t indulgent; it’s wise, and it changes how you show up in love. Inner wellbeing shapes every connection we build, and sometimes stepping into the right environment is all it takes to remember who you are and return to dating with a clearer, softer, more aligned heart.
