Whether the sun is shining, it’s pelting with rain, or the leaves are turning, there’s nothing more cozy and warming than somewhere sensational to hide away for a couple of days that doesn’t involve the airport. Here are some of our favorites on either side of the pond but you’ll need to think about booking soon to secure your romantic adventure.

NEW YORK

In just 60 to 90 minutes from Manhattan you could find yourselves sitting in front of your bedroom fireplace or on the terrace at Richard Gere’s place “The Bedford Post Inn”. It’s small but perfectly formed, and dinner reservations at the legendary La Crémaillère nearby are a must, as is dressing in jacket for the occasion. Read all about it in the September issue of Vanity Fair.

The Adirondacks and specifically the “The Point” on Lake Saranac, is a trip back to luxury of a bygone era. Formerly the summer camp of William Avery Rockefeller, you and your love will float on its remote luxury ambience. It takes a little more effort to get here, but so worth it for the big stone fireplaces and big dash of upper class Americana, it could be the set for a Ralph Laurent photo shoot. Push the boat out quite literally and book the 33 foot Mahogany Hackercraft for a cruise around the lake.

Hudson, New York is just getting more and more stylish in a West Village meets Brooklyn kind of way by the minute. Curating your visit means booking somewhere cool to spend your nights and you can’t go past Wm Farmer & Sons for nailing what the vibe is all about. You don’t even have to go anywhere to eat and drink other than downstairs. If you’re going to venture out to dinner, reservations at Fish & Game are a must where the chef has won best in the Northeast.

LONDON

If you want to experience the Cotswolds dream in complete privacy, and soak in tubs side by side with a glass of champagne, then you’re date will blush with romance when entering The Little Scarlett. It’s incredibly popular, but then Unique Home Stays have any number of gorgeous 2 person getaway dreams on offer, check them out and take your pick.

Beaverbrook does grand country house with a youthful style that’s plush and ready to embrace your romantic notions. Book a room in the garden house for a little more seclusion and colorful whimsy. You’ll feel heady with love just wandering the stunning gardens, bike or horse riding, or just rambling through the forest. It’s really just heavenly.

Leave London around 10.30am and you’ll easily get to Pembrokeshire Wales after lunch. Just in time for Chris and Helen to pour you a cup of tea and ply you with cake as you drink in the stunning sea view from the terrace. Style abounds in this award winning gem where breakfast is on par with the best London brasseries. Sea Kayaking and stunning coastal walks are on the doorstep as well as local produce at dining at spots like the Sloop in nearby Porthgain. Bill Bryson loved it, you will too.
