No …not that unfortunate incident at the hairdressers, but a sound bite of some things in 2014 that unconsciously caught our attention this year. This is an alternative review of 2014, let’s call it simply a Maclynn Review.
Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin’s “conscious uncoupling” was reported in the Guardian newspaper as “deluded tosh”, it’s no wonder everyone’s favourite Hollywood star has a website called….Goop? Isn’t the Queen rather fabulous? She is so 2014, what with Twittering and photo bombing, but don’t expect any royal Twerking even if whole heartedly encouraged to do so by handsome Harry. We might finally begin to like the theme tune to Frozen when hell freezes over, but in the meantime singing it in the shower is absolutely ok. Was Pharrell Williams paying homage to Ned Kelly or a Jack and the Beanstalk pantomime with that hat? No matter; whatever he does it’s all swagger and cool and makes us “Happy”.
Kim Kardashian went nude and viral at the same time, perhaps there’s something in that, as did a whole host of celebrities this year.
Onto some more trends which raised their heads in 2014. Fashion faus pas, or sheer brillance? Unlike Kim most modest ladies have been covering up in neon, track suits and crop tops this year and as for the men folk… well beards are everywhere!
With many folk snatching up the iPhone 6 and tapping away furiously on airy iPads, 2015 may in fact herald the digital detox. Perhaps we can step away from the obsession with celebrity culture and being constantly “connected” and make real human connections? That’s our Maclynn Review most important message to come out of 2014.
It’s only December and we have Christmas and New Year to tweet and Facebook still, but can I propose an early New Year’s resolution to connect “in person”? People. Love. Life.
Love, Rachel
