Are you a social personality who seems to attract people because of your genuine interest in others, your warmth and sense of humour? Do your friends consider you to be the consummate networker? In the workplace and amongst friends, do you have that inherent knack of tuning into what really makes people tick? Do you quietly observe people in your social circle who seem to end up always with the wrong person because they are following their aesthetic nose all the time? Do you see the positives in people and recognise the gem at a dinner party who is without a partner but you know they are something really special? Do you believe you have strong emotional intelligence and the ability to filter your own feelings while managing those of your clients? Does your own personal, and professional life experience make you believe you would connect with and understand successful people who have the means to engage a professional Matchmaker to help with their search for a relationship? Some of this may resonate strongly with you and if you recognise that you have many of these qualities mentioned, then maybe a career in Matchmaking is for you!

It can be a very rewarding career both personally and financially. I always knew that I wanted a career which involved helping people. To be honest, I didn’t even know matchmaking existed as a profession, when I started out in my working life. I’ve always been fascinated by the human mind and behaviour, as well as in business, so I completed a degree in psychology, followed by a Master’s in Business Psychology. After several years of working in psychology, I realised I particularly enjoyed working with people on a one-to-one basis. I became curious about life coaching and through this, matchmaking caught my eye and as they say, the rest is history!

It is a real privilege to have a career in matchmaking whereby you can literally change people’s lives and introduce them to their future. As the industry has grown and progressed and found popularity through reality television, it is essential to ensure you are properly trained and accredited to add gravitas to your CV. You will also want to be sure that you join a professional Matchmaking company whose reputation is truly excellent. With several award wins and more importantly, successfully matching hundreds of couples, Maclynn is widely recognised as one of the serious contenders in the professional echelons of Matchmaking, with offices in both London and New York.

I also sit on the Advisory Committee for the one of the most respected bodies in the world of Matchmaking, The Matchmaking Institute, established in 2003 by Lisa Clampitt. It was founded with the intention of establishing a code of ethics and strict quality standards in the matchmaking industry. It strives to create a greater public and media awareness of the matchmaking industry. The great news is that the Matchmaking Institute also offers training. Subjects include areas such as pre-screening techniques, the Matchmaker sales process, and client coaching. You will have the opportunity to explore the right kind of matchmaking business models as well as the event planning and marketing that needs to be done to support the business. You will also learn how to develop the skills to really build your database to expand the possibilities for your clients.

If your career is feeling a little stale and you are looking to put a bit of stimulation and reward back into it, then a career in Matchmaking may be the very job for you.
