When it comes to business and relationships do you value honesty?

We would all likely automatically say yes, but in reality is it possible to be honest and succeed in business? There are plenty of stories and rumours about people succeeding in business through dishonesty, but how does that sit with your ethics and morality?

The parallel of how we live and operate in the business world can be a reflection of who we are in our personal life. If you are an employee, your business relationship with your employer is one of the most significant relationships in your life. Are you happy in that relationship? Is it open, honest, truthful and trustworthy? As an employee you can be motivated by honesty as inspires respect. As an employer or business entity creditors and investors are more likely to feel confident with an honest individual.

Being honest extends to all of our business practices and will set a concrete foundation of trust upon which your reputation is built. This is no different in our personal lives. Are we known to be an honest and true person? Do we have a reputation that leaves us with an honesty deficit? If bending the truth and being deceitful or dishonest is our modus operandi, it becomes normal and natural and we ultimately become desensitised towards truth. It’s never too late to clean up your act.

Being honest and truthful is much less stressful than dishonesty. You can never hide from the truth and the universe has a habit of revealing it one way or another eventually.

We all want honesty and truthfulness in our professional and business lives, but the responsibility begins with us.

When you start a new business relationship, start a new job, or start to date, make a vow to begin the relationship with honesty. It will pay off in ways you’ve never expected.
