Scarlett, what made you set up Glow&Dry

In setting out to solve my own styling dilemma, I created glow&dry as the solution to women (and now men too), providing them with access to trusted styling from the best in business. As an elite lifestyle manager at Quintessentially, I used to get so many requests for non-salon stylists, but industry backstage experts, direct to the client’s location globally. Thinking it would be great if there was a concierge dedicated service to styling requirements for personal, corporate, bridal & private events, I decided to set up just that in glow&dry. Bringing the backstage to your door! We now offer hair, makeup, beauty, male grooming, personal shopping & styling services. I wanted to create a business & brand that I am proud of and to say is mine.

How do you make time for dating whilst setting up a global business?

I don’t – I know I shouldn’t say that, but it’s really hard to make time for myself. So, like I do with my business glow&dry, I bring in the experts.  Nowadays, there are so many time-wasters out there, that I assume that going on dates, will just be a waste of time (that I don’t have). That’s why I think so highly of Maclynn (formerly Vida). I love how your matchmaking services are entirely bespoke and your team of matchmakers personally search and assess potential matches on the clients’ behalf, taking away the stresses and saving valuable time. Dating through Maclynn, I know that going a date won’t be a waste of my time and will be enjoyable and worthwhile – therefore I will make the time!

What are you looking for in a partner?

I use to think I didn’t matter what my partner did, however from setting up & running a high powered business, I have realised for me it really does! A suitable partner would be someone who understands the entrepreneurial world and is by your side to empower you and pick you up. It can be hard when running a business as a solo founder; not many people understand the stresses and appreciate the highs that go with it.

What is your top tip for a first date?

Always be yourself – ultimately you are looking for someone that wants you! AND dress to empower, but still have your own style. Your style showcases different elements of your personality.

Personally, I always book my glow&dry team in advance, because if I don’t I end up running around trying to fit too much in and I end up with hardly any time to get ready! The last thing anyone needs before a date is to be worrying about how they look, so having my glam squad in place is invaluable.

Vogue referred to G&D as ‘your styling squad on speed dial’ and Tatler described us as ‘a fairy godmother on speed dial‘. I guess you could say I am a stylist matchmaker! I like to match my stylists to my clients’ personalities and to the occasion too. No one walks out their front door without looking incredible; I personally vet every stylist to ensure they are not only great makeup artists, but are great people too.

What keeps you glowing daily?

COFFEE! I am totally addicted and can be found with a phone in one hand and a coffee in the other most days!

No but seriously, I think what keeps me going daily now, is knowing this all this isn’t just for myself. Glow&Dry is a service loved not only by our clients but our stylists too.  I always set out to build not just a business & brand, but a community. And that’s what keeps me glowing, knowing that I am providing a service that my clients find invaluable. For me, there is nothing more rewarding than receiving emails from my customers expressing their appreciation and telling me that G&D keeps them glowing, it makes all the hard work well worth it!

What’s your go-to date look?

I think it all depends on where you are going on your date, you have to dress for the location! No one looks good in a dress and high heels when heading ice skating for example. Personally, I do love a classic white shirt, as I can dress this up & down so quickly with a skirt and heels or trousers and boots depending on where we are going to.

NAIL YOUR FIRST DATE LOOK: TOP TIPS FROM GLOW&DRY’S CELEBRITY MUA TANIA GRIER

Glow&Dry’s elite make-up artist Tania works with some of the world’s most glamorous women including Yasmin Le Bon, Sabine Gerry and Poppy De Levigne, to name a few. She is well equipped to showcase someone’s best features for the perfect date look. Here are some of her top tips:

  • Enhance don’t mask. Whether it’s your eyes or your lips, pick your best feature and enhance it naturally;
  • Ditch the false lashes and go for a mascara that elongates and thickens without clumping. Carry a cotton bud for any residue;
  • Choose products that give a natural glow such as Rodial’s Soft Focus Drops, which can be patted onto the cheekbones or mixed into your moisturiser;
  • Keep a few favourite looks on file to recreate quickly if your date surprises you last minute. Always carry a red lipstick for a speedy office to date touch up;
  • In general, less is more. A subtle smoky or cat eye with good skin and a light lip gloss is so much more enticing than heavy make-up.
