There are some real Christmas Market weekend getaway gems, but with being so busy getting ready for the festive season take the planning pressure off and stay at home. People travel from all around the world to experience the magic, sparkle and twinkle of the season in New York and London and we have it all on our doorstep. Here are a couple of my favourite markets and where to experience the best winter brrrrrrrunch close by. Festive romance abounds!

Union Square – New York

The Flatiron district has become one of my favourite neighbourhoods in New York, and you can beat the Union Square Holiday market on any weekend. However, with Christmas approaching it takes on a totally new festive flair. You’ll find all kinds of treasures not just North American but lots of European items to be had as well for your stockings and holiday dinner parties. Nearby on Broadway between 27th and 28th, the eclectic interior of the Nomad hotel makes it the perfect place for a weekend brunch, bookings essential. The Bloody Mary’s are delicious, and don’t forget to order one of the freshly baked gooey chocolate croissants, just divine.

Bryant Park – New York

Here you have the combination of lots of under cover spaces, just in case it’s snowing, and a huge selection of stalls, all surrounding an ice rink. Purpose built place for romance, but after the bustle of all the shopping, and potentially some hand holding on ice, you might be ready to cosy up for something to eat far from the madding crowd. Scoot over to Parker & Quinn at the Refinery where you can build your own beverage with a “Bloody Board” or a “Bubbles Board”. The crab cake eggs benedict is definitely something for you to get your claws into.

Greenwich – London

In this historical part of London, you’ll find an experience in a part of town you might not always get to. Travel to Greenwich by boat and experience London from the Thames. You’ll dock and then an easy walk into town through picturesque streets. The market boasts over 100 stalls with all kinds of interesting things to add to your presents pile for the holidays. Avoid the chain restaurants and go for something British like The Rivington bookings essential for brunch. Tuck into the full English or benedict with the perfect pot of tea or a glass of festive bubbles.

Wimbledon – London

Better known for tennis but actually a lovely little slice of British life on the south west side of London. They are hosting 12 days of Christmas in the Piazza throughout December, with stalls brimming with all kinds of lovely ideas as stocking fillers. Pop into Brew for brunch it’s definitely a favourite and still only in a couple of locations in London so hasn’t become chain dead.

The holiday season is alive with cheer and definitely large doses of romance. Make your festive date one to remember, surprise your partner with something different.
